Joel Sanderson and World Musicians
The JANI LANG BAND is Jani on fiddle, Lewis Powel on accordion and myself on double bass. We play Hungarian, Romanian and Transylvanian music. This video shows us augmented by some Hungarian musicians playing fiddles and a viola which has 3 strings and a flat bridge, used as a chordal instrument. The Hungarian musicians are also professional dancers and taught the audience this fantastic traditional dance.
The BABALON ARABIC BAND is a group centred around the wonderful Mohammed Nafee from Iraq who playes music and sings songs from all around the Middle East. Mohammed playes oud and has gathered around him a group of Scottish musicians who love the music and are fascinated by the culture. There are traditional songs from Persia and Mesopotamia of old, Iraq and Iran in the modern world.
We often perform with belly dancers as in this video taken during the Edinburgh Peace and Spirituality Conference. We performed in Samarkand on the 'silk road' in Uzbekistan at an International music competition as seen in the picture in the promo video below.
